This is a summary of the results of the first call for proposals (submission deadlines 8th September 2003 and 15th March 2004).

Received Proposals

124 proposals were received. They fall in the following four categories:

  • 56 Basic research/studies (45 %)
  • 40 Concepts (32 %)
  • 18 Basic Economic Research (15 %)
  • 10 Technology and Component Development (8 %)

The total amount of requested funding reached 17,9 million Euro.

Projects Selected for Funding

2 Jury meetings took place in October 2003 and May 2004 at the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). In total 22 international jury members selected 51 projects for funding, 73 proposals were rejected.

Consortia Composition of the Received Proposals

In 124 submitted proposals 291 various institutions had been included. 204 out of 480 partners in the consortia were granted funding. In addition to 124 applicants 221 were subcontractors, 52 were financing partners and 83 project partners (organisations that submitted more than one proposal were counted repeatedly). On average each submitted proposal had four partners.

Funding Volume

In total 51 projects received 5,9 Million Euro in funding. Additional 900.000 Euro had been provided by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology to 9 projects from the wait-list from the first round (submission deadline - September 2003). In the end all projects selected by the Jury had received funding.
